What should I wear to the golf course?

Published March 27th, 2007 by Andrew

Be organized before you play/practice and avoid distractions and discomfort.

  1. Wear comfortable clothes that allow for movement during the golf swing. While the University Golf Course doesn’t enforce a strict dress code, many courses do. Course appropriate attire that works anywhere is the following:
    1. Non-denim trouser/slacks (jeans are allowed at the University)
    2. Bermuda / Crops / Mid thigh shorts
    3. Sleeved / Sleeveless shirts with collar or mock neck. Modest necked tee shirts work well at most places. No tanks/tees/exercise tanks.
    4. Sports Suits also work as comfortable clothing, although these may be too casual at many facilities.
  2. Carry your golf clubs in a lightweight golf bag or use a pull cart.
  3. Have your golf bag stocked with plenty of tees and golf balls, golf gloves, and ball markers for the green. Hang a small towel on your bag to clean dirt from the golf ball.
  4. Carry a light windbreaker, mittens, and stocking cap on cooler days. Always try to dress in easy to remove layers to reflect changing weather conditions.
  5. During an 18 hole round of golf be sure to carry a water bottle and some portable snacks. Energy bars store well in a golf bag and can provide a boost if you are running low on fuel.
  6. Sunscreen and a visor or cap are essential on sunny days.
  7. Golf shoes (no metal spikes) or athletic/running shoes (no sandals)
